REIQ rallying real estate professionals in Queensland's regions

Zone Events, Queensland regions

Several regional areas in Queensland can expect a visit from the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) over May, as the peak body rallies real estate professionals together for important legislative and professional development updates.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the annual REIQ Zone Events were particularly timely this year with plenty of updates to pack into the half-day sessions over 12 locations.

“There’s an enormous amount happening in real estate right now. I’ve been doing this a long time, and I can’t recall a time when there’s been so much legislative change coming,” Ms Mercorella said.

“Laws have already been passed in Queensland Parliament which will introduce a new Seller Disclosure Regime, impacting sellers and buyers once it comes into effect.

“We also have a Bill in Parliament as we speak which will introduce a new wave of rental reforms – the fifth round in as many years – and that’s not only relevant to renters, but to investors as well.

“That Bill will also introduce mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for all real estate professionals in Queensland – a matter we’ve been long term supporters and advocates for.

“Also, new Body Corporate amendment laws have come into effect that impact apartments and units in body corporate complexes.

“These Zone Events are about giving the real estate community in the regions throughout Queensland, an update on some of the Bills that are in Parliament as we speak or have recently passed, and how those laws will impact their day-to-day business practices.

“It’s also an important opportunity for us to meet face to face and gather information on market conditions and observations from professionals on the ground.

“We have also assembled an array of other expert speakers to provide some professional development opportunities for attendees. As a peak body, we think it’s incredibly important that agents keep learning because the laws and landscape keep changing.”
