Continuing Professional Development training becomes mandatory for all Queensland real estate professionals on the 6th of June this year.
If you hold a licence or certificate with the Office of Fair Trading, those working in the real estate industry must complete approved CPD activity each year.
CPD real estate courses will need to be completed by:
-
Residential and commercial sales agents
-
Residential and commercial property managers
-
Buyer's agents
-
Real estate auctioneers
-
Business brokers
-
Resident letting agents
As a registered training organisation and Office of Fair Trading-approved CPD provider, the REIQ is the leading provider of Continuing Professional Development CPD real estate training in Queensland.
We will continue to offer industry-leading courses to ensure those with a licence or registration not only comply with these new CPD requirements but can also tailor your training to your individual needs, whichever sector you work in.
From staying up to date with legislative changes and industry trends to learning best practice, REIQ CPD training will help registered and licensed agents boost your core skills and service excellence.
From 6 June 2025, your first real estate CPD year will begin on the anniversary date of your licence or certificate being issued.
The OFT and REIQ will have a calculator available to determine when your CPD training is due for completion.
CPD requirements: What you need to know
As a registered training organisation, the REIQ has played a key role in shaping Continuing Professional Development training to ensure it remains relevant and beneficial to you, whether you have a licence or registration.
Compulsory requirements
Each year, the annual CPD real estate compulsory requirements will be set by the Office of Fair Trading, based on advice from an Advisory Panel made up of industry, training, and community representatives.
The REIQ sits on this advisory panel.
CPD training sessions
To meet the OFT CPD changes, a real estate agent must complete two approved CPD training sessions per year, choosing from the following options:
-
One Type 1 CPD session and one Type 2 CPD session; OR
-
Two Type 1 CPD sessions
With CPD hours, the OFT says a duration of two to three hours for each compulsory CPD session is considered sufficient.
Type 1 CPD
A Type 1 CPD program session includes:
-
An approved CPD version of a unit of competency from the national Property Services Training Package; or
-
A fully accredited unit of competency from these qualifications.
The REIQ will provide a range of options for licence and certificate holders so you can choose the training that best suits your requirements.
Type 2 CPD
A Type 2 session focuses on enhancing service outcomes and consumer protection for buyers and sellers.
These CPD courses aim to boost the professionalism, customer service, and ethical business practices of people in the profession, whether in sales or property management.
The REIQ will provide a range of compulsory CPD training to help you.

The REIQ will simplify your compliance by providing a one-stop shop for the CPD courses and training you need for successful completion of your CPD year annually.

You don't need to start CPD until 12 months after your licence or certificate is first issued;

If for most of your CPD year your licence or certificate is deactivated;
-
If you have a limited real estate agent licence for business letting or for affordable housing; or

If you are representing public sector agencies or you're an official with a licence under the Property Occupations Act 2024.
Exceptional circumstances
Exceptional circumstances can also apply as an exemption for those with a licence or registration certificate. The OFT has more information on exceptional circumstances.
