REIQ delivers industry-leading CPD for Queensland real estate professionals

Continuing Professional Development training becomes mandatory for all Queensland real estate professionals on the 6th of June this year.

If you hold a licence or certificate with the Office of Fair Trading, those working in the real estate industry must complete approved CPD activity each year.

For regular updates on real estate CPD, subscribe to the REIQ Journal.

CPD courses will need to be done by:

  • Residential and commercial sales agents
  • Residential and commercial property managers
  • Buyer’s agents
  • Real estate auctioneers
  • Business brokers
  • Resident letting agents

As a registered training organisation and OFT-approved CPD provider, the REIQ is the leading provider of CPD real estate training in Queensland. We will continue to offer industry-leading courses to ensure you not only comply with these new requirements but can also tailor your training to your individual needs, whichever sector you work in.

From staying up to date with legislative changes and industry trends to learning best practice, REIQ CPD will help you boost your core skills and service excellence.

From 6 June 2025, your first real estate CPD year will begin on the anniversary date of your licence or certificate being issued.

The OFT and REIQ will have a calculator available to determine when your CPD is due for completion.

CPD requirements: What you need to know

The REIQ has played a key role in shaping CPD training to ensure it remains relevant and beneficial to you.

Each year, the CPD compulsory requirements will be set by the OFT, based on advice from an Advisory Panel made up of industry, training, and community representatives.

To meet the OFT CPD changes, agents must complete two approved CPD sessions per year, choosing from the following options:

  • One Type 1 CPD session and one Type 2 CPD session; OR
  • Two Type 1 CPD sessions

With CPD hours, the OFT says a duration of two to three hours for each CPD session is considered sufficient.

What is Type 1 CPD?

A Type 1 CPD session includes:

  • An approved CPD version of a unit of competency from qualifications under the national Property Services Training Package; or
  • A fully accredited unit of competency from these qualifications.

The REIQ will provide a range of options for you so you can choose the training that best suits your needs.

What is Type 2 CPD?

A Type 2 session focuses on enhancing service outcomes for buyers and sellers. These CPD courses aim to boost the professionalism, customer service, and ethical business practices of people in the profession.

The REIQ will provide a range of CPD options to help you build your essential skills in these areas.

REIQ: Your one-stop real estate CPD provider

The REIQ will simplify your compliance by providing a one-stop shop for the CPD courses and training you need for successful completion of your CPD year annually. These will be available for REIQ members and non-members.

Exemptions

According to the OFT, there are certain circumstances in which you won't have to complete CPD, including:

  • You don't need to start CPD until 12 months after your licence or certificate is first issued;
  • If for most of your CPD year your licence or certificate is deactivated;
  • If you have a limited real estate agent licence for business letting or for affordable housing; or
  • If you are representing public sector agencies or you're an official with a licence under the Property Occupations Act 2024.

Exceptional circumstances can also apply as an exemption.
