Future of housing in new hands; REIQ remains hopeful
The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is welcoming Queensland Premier David Crisafulli’s newly revealed cabinet, who face complex housing challenges ahead.
Along with the Premier, the REIQ is looking forward to working with the new leaders, including those responsible for shaping the future of the state’s housing:
- Jarrod Bleijie, Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning
- David Janetzki, Treasurer and Minister for Home Ownership
- Sam O’Connor, Minister for Housing and Public Works
- Deb Frecklington, Attorney-General
REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella expressed optimism at the appointment of dedicated ministers for home ownership and housing – critical roles given the crises in our state.
“Queensland has instilled a lot of hope in our new leaders, and there is a real opportunity to show them that housing will remain a key priority of this cabinet,” Ms Mercorella said.
“When you consider how diluted the ‘great Australian dream’ has become for ordinary Queenslanders, and how essential shelter is for every one of us – a plan to bring hope back to housing must take focus.
“Given the urgency of our housing crisis, there won’t be any time to rest on our laurels.
“With Queensland in the spotlight as we approach the Olympics, housing solutions for vulnerable communities are integral to the plan, as are solutions that boost home ownership levels and ease rental pressures.
“The REIQ looks forward to engaging in constructive consultation and collaboration with the Crisafulli Government, seizing every opportunity to share our unmatched expertise in Queensland real estate.”
As the peak body for the real estate profession, the REIQ is always working to help shape a better future for housing in Queensland and is well-placed to advocate on behalf of this important sector which underpins the Queensland economy and at the end of the day puts roofs over the heads of Queenslanders.
