Cost of living rebate for Queensland households
The Queensland Government has introduced the Cost-of-Living Rebate for the 2023-2024 financial year.
Essentially, the rebate will be applied to eligible customers’ electricity accounts with eligibility based on the following:
- $700 Cost of Living Rebate for vulnerable households (i.e. existing Queensland Electricity Rebate recipients)
- $550 Cost of Living Rebate for all other Queensland households in 2023-24.
Residential customers in privately-owned embedded networks are also eligible for the rebate, provided they meet the required eligibility criteria.
Eligibility and timing
To be eligible, a residential customer in an embedded network must:
- be separately metered for electricity; and
- have an open electricity account with their embedded network billing provider on 1 July 2023.
The rebate will be automatically applied to eligible customer accounts as a one-off lump sum credit of either $700 or $550 depending on which rebate the resident is eligible for. For example, the $550 rebate will appear as a $137.50 credit on a customer’s electricity bill each quarter.
Customers who don't receive a separate electricity bill, for example, where electricity is included as part of rent for the property, will not be eligible to receive the rebate payment.
Other arrangements
Customers who receive their electricity bills through on-suppliers, including:
- landlords
- property managers
- caravan park owners
- body corporates
are also eligible for the rebate and will have the rebate credited to their electricity bills by their on-supplier in the second half of 2023.
