REIQ updates privacy policy
The new REIQ Privacy Policy has been published this week. The REIQ recognises the importance of protecting our customers' privacy. We attach great importance to safeguarding personal information that we hold.
The REIQ complies with all relevant privacy laws, including the requirements under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act), the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act and relevant Australian State or Territory jurisdiction-specific privacy laws that apply to us. We are required to comply with the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (Cth) in relation to our obligations as a registered training organisation.
By using our websites, or by providing personal information to us, customers agree to the terms of the REIQ’s Privacy Policy. This includes opening a Realworks or RealworksHR account, applying for an REIQ membership, or applying for any REIQ training course or registration.
When a customer agrees to the terms of the REIQ’s Privacy Policy, they consent to the collection, use, storage and disclosure of that information as set out under the policy.
Changes to REIQ’s Privacy Policy
Under the new Privacy Policy, the REIQ sets out the types of data collected from customers.
This includes communication data, customer data, user data, technical data, device data and marketing data. We have also expanded the list of personal information that may be collected by the REIQ as applicable to the relevant product or service.
Part of the Customer Data collected includes payment information (such as credit card and bank account details) which is recorded and stored in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. This applies only if the customer has selected an automatic payment for any REIQ products and services.
Also included is clarification around the information collected by the REIQ from its business partners, suppliers and third parties.
Part 6 sets out an extensive list of how the REIQ collects personal information from customers.
In Part 7, further detail is provided in relation to how the REIQ uses and discloses personal information collected under the Privacy Policy. Some of these uses include:
- to provide our products and services to you, including processing applications and renewals for membership services and training enrolments;
- to deliver relevant content and marketing to you;
- to help us decide how we can improve our products and services, and to improve our websites, our products, our services and our customer service;
- to provide you with customer support including responding to complaints;
- to promote real estate and property services and REIQ membership to the community;
- to carry out consumer, market, community and product research, compile demographics, to analyse data and to deduce information;
- for security purposes, including to perform functions that we believe are necessary to protect the security and proper functioning of our websites and online services; and
- to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
The REIQ may also collect, use and disclose deidentified statistical information about property market trends and analytics.
