Life on the REIQ Board with Josh Kindred
When Josh Kindred nominated for the REIQ Board in 2018, it was the year Queensland’s peak body in real estate introduced director categories to better reflect the diversity of its members.
Aged 30 at the time, Josh put his hand up for the Young Director position. He was already serving as an REIQ Zone Chair for the Moreton Bay area and saw an opportunity to further contribute to the profession.
Josh was elected to the Board on 26 October 2018.
Well qualified for the Board Director position
Josh began his real estate career at the age of 17 and became a real estate leader when he opened his first independent office in Redcliffe at the age of 20.
By the time he nominated for the Board Director position in 2018, Josh had opened four offices with around 70 staff.
He had a track record of directing a number of diverse enterprises that included property development, investment and finance, marina operations and services, a retail coffee brand and more.
Josh attributed the success of these entities to proven customer engagement strategies, a strategic and dynamic online presence and a focus on team members.
“In our business, people culture comes first, and we take great pride in our ability to relate and work with a team that ranges from 17 to 70, male and female and from all walks of life,” he said at the time.
A philosophy of customer engagement on the Board
Josh believes a diverse REIQ Board better serves members and the wider profession.
“The real estate profession is designed to serve customers,” he said.
“Real estate professionals are the REIQ’s customers and our customers are diverse.
“Therefore, in order for us to best serve the profession, the Board should have a diverse makeup to support diverse members.
“We need to be constantly mindful of who our customers are. A diversity of opinion on the Board can make a positive contribution to the decision-making process, helping us respond better to our customers’ needs.”
Six years on the Board
Josh’s tenure as a Director concluded on 25 October after six years.
He said his experience of the board was that of a united team committed to the betterment and advancement of the Queensland real estate profession.
Josh is proud to have played a strategic decision-making role for the REIQ, helping the peak body provide the services, products and advocacy that support and advance the profession.
“It’s great to have been part of a team that guides and nurtures progress and innovation within the REIQ,” he said.
