From the footy fields to the real estate office, we sat down with AFL legend Jason Akermanis to talk about his career change to the real estate industry. Graduating from the REIQ in July 2020, Akermanis is now sales person in charge at Blue Moon Property Ascot.

The REIQ: Why did you choose to study at the REIQ?

Jason Akermanis: You need to undertake a Registration course to get your start in the real estate industry. The REIQ provided an easy way of getting it done.

I was in country New South Wales when I chose to study real estate, so the REIQ made the most sense to me as it's all online and easily accessible. It was definitely the best course I could have chosen to do.

The REIQ: What did you love most about studying at the REIQ?

Jason Akermanis: You had to get it right. You had to be thorough. The course content was easy to follow and the support was there when you needed it. The priority marking was great as the trainers would quickly let me know whether I was right or wrong. I like things done yesterday, so this really worked for me.

The REIQ: How has the REIQ helped shape your future in the real estate industry?

Jason Akermanis: The REIQ has provided me with opportunity. The course gave me the base knowledge that I needed to get my start in the industry.

The REIQ: Would you recommend the REIQ to aspiring real estate professionals and why?

Jason Akermanis: Yes of course, and I have. I will continue to do so. If you're busy, have other jobs or are pursuing a real estate career later in life - you can do it online, study in your own time and learn at your own pace.

The REIQ: What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career change into real estate?

Jason Akermanis: Go and get your Registration with the REIQ. Get a feel for it, it's a wonderful industry. It's a lot of work but it's great fun. It gives you a lot of purpose. If you work hard, you get the results.
